Jon & Kat - Married!

"Our wedding ceremony was exactly what both our hearts wanted.. As we originally started to plan/think about our wedding cermony, our biggest desire was to give God the glory.  We began searching scripture to see what elements were specific to how God viewed a marriage ceremony vs what we as a culture had made it from history and tradition. In addition, we felt the Lord calling us to both move to Chicago but didn't have peace that we were to move as individuals.  So after more prayer, we got clarity to have a simple ceremony in order to begin our life together as Mr and Mrs Barstad when we moved to Chicago.

George and Joan Kenworthy (Pastor who performed the ceremony), had known Jon 3yrs and had counselled him through some difficult times.  They offered their beautiful home to us which provided an intimate setting in front of the fireplace.  We wanted our vows to incorporate our relationship with God and one another so we wrote our own.

I had never seen myself in a traditional wedding gown that one only wears once and was delighted when I discovered a dress I had picked up for a "special occasion" would be the one.  Jon had bought black pearl earrings when he was in Hong Kong for "the woman of his dreams" and gifted them to me on Valentine's day.. Although they are called "black pearl, they are actually a deep purple" and complimented the blush pink color of my dress.  My roommate, Natasha, was gifted a black pearl pendant necklace from her mother many years ago and it was an exact match to the earrings. Tulips were always my favorite flower because they are simple and elegant.

Kevin and Rebecca (our witnesses) were the couple that God used to introduced us so it was extra meaningful to have them there. So this day was a testament to not just all God had done in bringing us together but also how He provided down to every little detail.. and a good reminder for the future that God will and is faithful in His promises."
